Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles)

Synopsis:

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

The Phoenix’s Perspective

Alice in Zombieland has been on my to-be-read list for a while. I can’t lie to you and say that I decided to pick it up. What really happened was that I left the book I was going to read at home and this one was on my iPad.  But I must say that was the best mistake ever!  I was hooked from the first chapter and read through the trilogy in three days.

I must say that I was totally taken by surprise when I was introduced to the monsters and how to fight them. Showalter created a whole new version of “zombie” and that was awesome especially when there are so many stories with the traditional zombie in it. This zombie change was also great because it allowed for a whole new method of fighting them.  It gave Showalter the ability to develop new abilities for each character.  I wish I could go into more detail, but it would kill the story for you – so please make sure you read it.

Now I must say that I have read many complaints about Alice in Zombieland. There are people who feel that the title means the story line should follow Alice in Wonderland somehow and it isn’t Wonderland-y enough for them. To me, Alice in Wonderland was about Alice feeling lost due to the changes going on around her and slowly but surely finding her way out because she figured out who she was inside.  Alice in Zombieland follows that same process.  Alice (“Ali”) loses herself due to major changes in life and has to learn who she really is inside.  I think some people were looking for a literal translation with some zombies in it.

Showalter did an amazing job at creating a wonderful story that wasn’t just a copy of Wonderland with random zombies in it.

Would I add it to the library?
