Scarlett Garner doesn’t remember anything before the age of four—but a car accident changes everything. She starts to remember pieces of a past that frighten her. A past her parents hid from her…and a secret that could get her killed.

The Phoenix’s Perspective

To be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was expecting when I started reading Awake. I started the book at the barbershop while my kids got haircuts. I finished the book that same day. It’s was 300+ pages of wonderful-ness.

The beginning made it feel like it was going to be more about a teenage romance than anything else. A young, sometimes naïve, girl meets a new student at school and somehow they become inseparable. Scarlett never questions it and I don’t think many teenagers would considering the description of Noah. It was just love blossoming every moment they were together. So unless this book is just about them, something is up.

Scarlett is in a car accident (not a spoiler – it’s in the synopsis). That car accident changes everything. She starts to remember things that she hadn’t been able to before and what she remembers isn’t making sense. That’s when BOOM! Preston hits you with the craziness that is Scarlett’s past life trying to take over her present. There are so many questions that came to mind when I got to that point in the book that all I could do was keep going. I was left in shock at the end and was even hoping for a potential sequel to tie up a loose end. Please read it and then cross your fingers with me (lol).

It was so good that I literally went out the next day and got all of the books Preston wrote in that fashion – The Cellar, The Cabin, and You will be Mine. Preston found a way to pull you in and not let go. I was so pleasantly surprised by this book and can not wait to read the rest of them.

Would I add it to the library?

Most definitely!  I am excited to read the rest of the books and am very happy to have been exposed to Natasha Preston’s writing.
